Baseball Betting Preview: Rockies at Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies won the National League pennant last season but if they don’t their act together soon they’re going to be out of the race. The Phils have played poorly since the All-Star break but perhaps getting back home for a four-game set with Rockies will help.
Many baseball watchers believe the Phillies will make a move for a starting pitcher before the trading deadline next week, but it’s getting to the point where it might already be too late.
The Phillies are expected to go with ace right-hander Roy Halladay on Friday, and even though he has some stellar stats (2.40 ERA, 131 strikeouts), he is just 10-8 this season (7:05 p.m. ET).
The Phillies are listed as -210 favorites at SBG Global and the total is set at 8 (over -120). On the runline, the Phils are -1.5 (EVEN).
The Rockies are very much in the National League West race but they are still not playing well on the road. They will look to right-hander Aaron Cook on Friday. He is 4-5 with a 4.56 ERA this season.
Cook was excellent last time out at Cincinnati throwing seven scoreless innings. He is 2-0 in his last three starts with a 3.93 ERA. He has not had much success in his career against the Phillies having gone 1-5 with a 5.70 ERA.
Halladay, who has spent most of his career in the AL, is 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA versus the Rockies.
Colorado has played well on Fridays recently – the Rockies are 5-1 in their last six Friday games. The Rockies are 4-1 in Cook’s last five starts vs. the National League East. The Rockies are 2-6 in the last eight meetings in Philadelphia.
This is a critical homestand for the Phillies if they want to make up some ground in the National League East. Following their series with the Rockies, they host Arizona for three games.
Here are some key baseball betting stats for Friday’s game:
The Phillies are 4-0 in their last four home games. The Phillies are 35-16 in their last 51 home games vs. a right-handed starter.
Looking at the total, the over is 14-6 in the Rockies’ last 20 overall. The under is 3-1-1 in Cook’s last five starts vs. the National League East.
The over is 5-2 in the Phillies’ last seven home games vs. a right-handed starter.
The under is 3-0-1 in the last four meetings in Philadelphia between the two teams.
